Update on the consultation about office actionsЗасварлах
Last month, the Wikimedia Foundation's Trust & Safety team announced a future consultation about partial and/or temporary office actions. We want to let you know that the draft version of this consultation has now been posted on Meta.
This is a draft. It is not intended to be the consultation itself, which will be posted on Meta likely in early September. Please do not treat this draft as a consultation. Instead, we ask your assistance in forming the final language for the consultation.
For that end, we would like your input over the next couple of weeks about what questions the consultation should ask about partial and temporary Foundation office action bans and how it should be formatted. Please post it on the draft talk page. Our goal is to provide space for the community to discuss all the aspects of these office actions that need to be discussed, and we want to ensure with your feedback that the consultation is presented in the best way to encourage frank and constructive conversation.
Please visit the consultation draft on Meta-wiki and leave your comments on the draft’s talk page about what the consultation should look like and what questions it should ask.
Thank you for your input! -- The Trust & Safety team 08:03, 16 Наймдугаар сар 2019 (UTC)

Improving the translation support for Mongolian WikipediaЗасварлах
Hello. Please help translate to your language! Thank you!
The Content Translation tool has been successful in supporting the translation process for many Wikipedia communities, and we want to collaborate with Mongolian Wikipedia editors with a new initiative to improve the tool based on your particular needs.
Content Translation facilitates the creation of Wikipedia articles by translating content from other languages. It has been used already to create more than half a million articles. In addition, the tool provides mechanisms to encourage the creation of good quality content, preventing the publication of lightly edited machine translations. In general, our analysis shows that the translations produced are less likely to be deleted than the articles started from scratch.
Mongolian Wikipedia editors have used Content Translation to create 137 articles. Given the size of the editing community, we think that there is potential to use translation to create more articles, expand existing ones, and attract new editors that learn how to make productive edits. Translation can help the community to reduce the language gap with other languages and grow the number of editors in a sustainable way. In order to achieve this goal, we want to collaborate with you to:
- Make Content translation more visible in the Mongolian Wikipedia. This involves making the tool available by default, expose the tool more visibly at relevant places, surface relevant content gaps, and customize the process to meet the needs of the community. In this way, more editors will be able to find relevant content to translate.
- Increase the coverage of content for existing articles. Explore ideas to expand existing articles by translating new sections. This will enable users to expand existing articles with new aspects to cover the topic in more detail.
- Support translation on more devices. Support translation from mobile devices to provide more opportunities for contribution on any device, enabling new editors to participate.
We want to share our goals early with the community. The details for the next steps will be defined as part of this collaboration with the community, and we also plan to start a research process to better understand the particular needs of the community.
As an initial step we are interested in hearing your impressions about the following:
- Does the idea of improving translation support in the ways described above seems promising as a way to sustainably grow for Mongolian Wikipedia?
- Do you anticipate any concerns we should consider?
Please let us know your impression about the proposed initiative and feel free to share any comment in this conversation thread. Thanks for your attention, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:39, 8 Аравдугаар сар 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for this great tool. I will try this tool with some pages. I translated some few pages with Google translator and heard many criticisms mostly from EU users. Orgio89 (talk) 02:16, 9 Аравдугаар сар 2019 (UTC)
Hello everyone. Apologies if this message isn't in your language; please feel free to translate it. Earlier this month we announced the Boost initiative to help wikis grow with translation. As a first step, we have enabled Content translation by default on Mongolian Wikipedia this week. Now it is easy for users to discover the tool through several entry points. However, users not interested in translation can disable it from their preferences. We expect this will help translators to create more content of good quality in Mongolian. We’ll be monitoring the statistics for Mongolian as well as the list of articles created with the tool. Content translation provides quality control mechanisms to prevent the abuse of machine translation and the limits can be adjusted based on the needs of each community. Please, feel free to share your impressions about the content created and how the tool works for the community. This feedback is essential to improve the tool to better support your needs. Thanks! --Pginer-WMF (talk) 12:47, 21 Аравдугаар сар 2019 (UTC)
